The first is a blurry photo taken in dim light with my old non- digital phone, showing us playing a game of monopoly at our beach unit, post Xmas 2012. Our elder son and his fiancee are keen board and word game players. I can't remember who won, but very much doubt it was me.

Here is a photo said son took of the creative happy b'day cake he made a few months later for his fiancee Lissa's birthday, based on scrabble tiles. We weren't there to sample the cake, but we did enjoy the photo! It will be interesting to see what kind of wedding cake they decide to have.
Monopoly was my favorite board game. Gosh - I haven't played it in forever. I'm pretty sure we still have it somewhere. I should get it out. I think my daughter might play it with me? Another game I really liked a lot was Chinese Checkers but I can't remember how to play it now. Never did learn how to play chess. Too involved. My Mom tried to teach me how to play Bridge, but I didn't like having to keep track of which cards had been played & which hadn't. Too much thinking! :)

DeleteMonopoly always made me tired because it never ended. I always liked buying the yellow properties and the railroads. Don't ask me why. Scrabble I LOVED. So I wish I could have been there to enjoy Lissa's cake.

ReplyDeleteMonopoly was my favourite too, and we started the girls off young with Monopoly Junior. We even have the card version, Monopoly Deal!
ReplyDeleteI believe there's a Melbourne version of Monopoly coming out in time for Xmas, which could be handy.

I am coming to the conclusion that there must be a connection between game playing and blogging as most of us have fond memories of playing games within the family. The photo may be a little blurry but the memories are pin sharp

ReplyDeleteI've just started playing Words with Friends on my mobile phone which I guess is the new version of board games...sad but true.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest thing with board games is to round up willing players, It helps if the weather has turned sour.

DeleteLovely family gathering...and since most of the new digital games include just one person per screen, when a family gathers it's still fun to get out Monopoly etc.
